Fondation Dumazedier Kabasele

Stroke prevention, awareness, and treatment

Dumazedier Kabasele Foundation is a nonprofit organization that partners with the community to prevent, treat, and beat stroke in the democratic republic of Congo. We stand alongside stroke survivors and their families, healthcare professionals, and researchers. We build community awareness and foster new thinking and innovative treatments. We support survivors on their journey to live the best possible life after a stroke.

We are the voice of stroke in the democratic Republic of Congo, and we work to:

  • Raise awareness of the risk factors, and signs of stroke and promote healthy lifestyles.
  • Improve treatment for stroke to save lives and reduce disability.
  • Improve life after stroke for survivors.
  • Encourage and facilitate stroke research.
  • Advocate for initiatives to prevent, treat and beat stroke.
  • We create two-way conversations with the community, health professionals and governments to advocate for better health outcomes for all Congolese affected by stroke.
  • We work across the stroke journey, supporting stroke survivors, careers, health professionals, governments and the public to reduce the impact of stroke on the Congolese community.
  • We ensure people understand how stroke can be prevented and by learning the signs of stroke and acting quickly, the outcomes for those who have strokes can be significantly improved.
  • We work to ensure all people who have strokes are treated on specialized stroke units and discharged from hospital with appropriate care plans and support.
